The Deft Chef is honored to be part of one of the most amazing catered events in Aiken. On November 22, 2019, he will be donating his fantastic cooking talents to help out a young woman from Mead Hall. The event is a karaoke contest, where the first prize is $100, and it is being held in the St. Thaddeus gym at 6 pm.

A Young Girl Determined to Make a Difference

Piper Barth is a middle schooler who attends Mead Hall. When she was just six months old, her father, Colin Barth, was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. At the time she had three older siblings, all under the age of 12. Colin was told at the date of diagnosis that he had two weeks to live. And he was advised to go home, say goodbye to his children, and put his affairs in order.

One of the Best Catered Events in Aiken for an Amazing Cause!

Colin was born and raised in Chicago, a trader at the Chicago Board of Trade, and loved his family fiercely. His nights were spent reading books and putting kids to bed and his weekends out on a ball field either watching his son Hayden’s travel baseball games or coaching football. He was only 33 years-old and not ready to leave this earth or his young family. But that is how pancreatic cancer works – it takes you no matter what your intentions are.

Colin was resolved not to go and fought valiantly for over 16 months. Although he battled with all that he had, the Barth family lost a dear father, son, and brother in January of 2009. Piper has devoted her young life to raising awareness for pancreatic cancer, and funds, in the hope that no one else will ever have to watch their loved one die of this horrible disease.

His Memory Forever Lives on in the Smile’s of his Children

So every year, Piper holds a fundraiser in her father’s memory. This year, she wanted to do it in November not only because it is pancreatic cancer awareness month, but also because it is her father’s birthday month. Her wish is for people to come out, sing their hearts out, and honor all the life that her Dad left behind to carry on. And her hope is for people to never forget who he was, how much he loved his family, and how much he is still left in the smile’s of his children.

Advance Purchase Tickets or pay at the Door!

Jimmy will be preparing and serving his greatest pasta creations with an open pasta bar. Tickets are $30 for adults and $30 for children. The price of admission includes both dinner and drinks for the children with two adult beverages for adults. There will also be a cash bar throughout the night for anyone who needs a little liquid courage to get up in front of a crowd.

There is a rumor that Jimmy will be singing his heart out…but that might just be in the kitchen. In any event, we are honored to be a part of such an amazing cause. And would love it if you would join, support Piper in her endeavor, and help to put a stop to pancreatic cancer in the future.
